Before you hire
- Verify the license with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors. Residential pool construction falls under the ROC's B-5 (residential swimming pool) or KA-5 (dual swimming pool) classifications; see our licensing guide.
- Get the contract, payment schedule and written warranty (structure, equipment, finish, workmanship) before any money changes hands, and make sure payments track completed stages.
- Confirm who pulls the building permit and who handles HOA approval, and that the price includes the required pool barrier/fence.
- Get 2–3 written, itemized quotes for the same size, type and features.
Resurfacing or replastering an existing pool instead of building one? See our sister site, Phoenix Pool Resurfacing Guide (same operator, same scoring rules).
