Arizona licensing: what a pool builder needs
- Residential pools: B-5. The Arizona Registrar of Contractors (ROC) lists the B-5 General Swimming Pool Contractor (residential) classification for construction and repair of residential swimming pools and spas, including related barriers and the utility connections to the pool equipment[2][4].
- Dual license: KA-5. The KA-5 Dual Swimming Pool classification combines commercial (A-9) and residential (B-5) pool work[2].
- Experience and exams. The ROC's requirements document lists four years of experience plus trade and business-management exams for these classifications[3].
- Check before you sign. Search the builder's name or ROC number on the ROC website and confirm the license is active and in the right classification[5]. Many builders print their ROC number on their website; where we saw one, it is on the company's profile here, copied as published.
Before you sign
- Get 2–3 written, itemized quotes for the same size, type and features.
- Ask who pulls the city permit and who handles HOA approval, and confirm the price includes the pool barrier your city requires.
- Get the payment schedule and warranty (structure, equipment, interior finish, workmanship) in writing.
